BIOMA · EchO takes the abstract photographs of nature made by Gaetano D'Agostino on the Amalfi Coast as the substrate of a system that rewrites them in real time through the flows of the present. The work does not display images: it makes them happen. No sequence is programmed in advance, every state is the consequence of the state of the environment at that moment.

The founding gesture is a renunciation of the authorship of the image in favour of the authorship of the system. The photograph ceases to be document and becomes reactive surface: it is the translation, onto pre-existing iconic matter, of the principle of the Opera-Sistema. The identity of the work lies not in the output but in the generative grammar that produces it.

The image inhabits two simultaneous layers. A dominant layer receives the full transduction of the data; a palimpsest layer beneath holds a second image as a surfacing trace. From this stratification emerges the perceptual thesis of the work: the Coast is not one place but many co-present places, and the time of the landscape is density, not sequence.

The palimpsest is geological memory made visible. The liminal space between the given photograph and its continuous rewriting is the Generative Void from which the work emerges, instant by instant.

The system recognises its own condition in five modes — Suspension, Flow, Erosion, Fracture, Resonance. BIOMA does not merely react to the data: it interprets them, recognises its state and disposes itself accordingly. This gives the system a quality close to a psyche: the work has a mood, and the mood governs its entire expressive economy.

The mode is not an effect applied to the image. It is the way the whole system interprets the present, and from it follows how far to dilate time, which of the five pieces of music to hold, which fragment of Residual Code Poetry to speak.

BIOMA · EchO is designed to induce a state of contemplative quiet. This is not a claim of atmosphere, it is a psychophysiological thesis. The image breathes following the wave period measured before the coast, a slow, living cadence close to that of human breath at rest, and the viewer's parasympathetic nervous system tends to synchronise: vagal tone lowers, the mind slows.

An expanded vignette wraps the frame in a circular darkness, the camera del raccoglimento, and a luminous focal point at the centre offers an anchor for fixation, like a candle flame in contemplative practice. The lateral movements of the displacement field engage the neural pathways that EMDR therapy uses to reduce amygdala activation. In Suspension everything slows: it is the moment when the work asks not to be observed, but invites one to stay.

BIOMA · EchO is the terrestrial, gathered side of the ResNet Framework, in dialectical pairing with ResNet XX — The Geopolitical Sublime. Where ResNet XX takes the geopolitical present and generates image ex novo, BIOMA takes the environmental present and rewrites given image. The pairing opposes the political and the terrestrial, the generated and the rewritten, the sublime and the gathering.

It is also the first work of the corpus to rewrite pre-existing authored iconic matter, and the first to deliberately include the viewer's nervous system among the components of the work. Both works are manifestations of the ResNet Framework — Resonance Networks, within Dario Buratti's Framework Generativo ArTech.
