The data
European meteorological networks and Copernicus satellites measure wind, particulates, pollen, air quality, temperature and pressure. From the sea before the coast come wave height and wave period, water temperature, current. From iNaturalist come the species observed within twenty-five kilometres over the past forty-eight hours: broom, peregrine falcon, foliose lichen, gecko. The present of the place enters the system.
The image
Gaetano D'Agostino's abstract photographs of the Amalfi Coast are not displayed: they are made to happen. Wind moves them, pollen granulates them, temperature draws them into drift, particulates break them apart. Beneath, a palimpsest layer holds a second image as a surfacing trace.
The voice
A corpus of verses in a D'Annunzian register, generated by the system from the incoming data merged with the mood of the images, then recorded as voice. Daniele, the work's iconic voice, articulates them: at runtime the system selects the fragment according to the mode of the moment. The word is never shown on screen, it exists only as voice.
